Happy 1st Month of Blogging!
Happy 1st month of
blogging!!!
I can’t believe that https://iammishke.blogspot.com has
been up for more than a month now, with my first post published on June 1,
2020. It’s amazing to see the support and views from families and friends who
took some time from their busy day to read through my blog and the thoughts I
would like to share through my site. π It has been an amazing journey so far and I
have discovered a lot of things ever since I started.
With that in mind, let me take
you to my journey on how it all started and how it was created. I can’t
remember exactly the time that I told my husband the idea that I’m interested
in blogging, to share my thoughts and experiences to others. But it was earlier
this year that I have been constantly looking into it and researching through
the internet on how to start and what to do. I would search Google and read
through different articles, and I would also watch Youtube videos of how to’s
and all that stuff. However, despite the research and videos I have watched, I
was still a bit hesitant to start at the time and kept on delaying it because I
don’t have a name for the site, and I have kept using that same reason not to
start. I told myself I need to have a name first because everything I built
will start with the site’s name, right? Boy, was I wrong, it appears that all
it takes to start a blog, or starting anything is the courage to start and a special
kind of “discouragement” from someone.
On May 30, 2020, it was a
pretty ordinary weekend for me and my husband, wherein he was playing a game,
or surfing the net while once again, I was watching Youtube videos about how to
start a blog. Then suddenly, my husband told me “nothing will happen with your
plans if you don’t act on it” when he heard that I was again watching some
Youtube video of how to’s. For how many times prior that day, he has been
encouraging me to start creating my website, or blog site to get the hang of it
and experience it first-hand what is out there. And again, I have kept on
answering that I can’t because I don’t have a name for the blog site. But on
that day, when he made that comment, I was challenged and was triggered with a
determination, and said that I will make it happen and it will happen.
Over that same weekend, I was able to create a new Gmail address for my blog, created test accounts in two blog hosting sites, and one for a site hosting on the following sites:
a.
https://www.blogger.com/ (blog
hosting site)
b.
https://wordpress.com/ (blog
hosting site)
c. https://byet.host/ (site hosting)
It amazed me that I was
creating my test blog sites and configuring it myself through the help of the
videos, articles I have researched on the internet, and just by exploring it
myself or with the help of my husband. I was astonished on how it all work and
of all this new knowledge I was learning along the way. It was definitely not
easy as I am not a super technical person but it is a new learning that I am
very much willing to take. I can also remember the excitement and giddiness I
felt when at last, I have a test blog site and I was playing around with different
settings, and comparing each site and then happily showing my accomplishment to
my husband. I can’t imagine that on that weekend alone I would be able to make
it all happen – and my husband was right, thanks to his special “discouragement”
or reverse psychology. With that one big step of trying to create a test site,
I can’t believe that I will actually be able to create my actual blog site that
I have today, and was able to immediately publish my very first post last June
1, 2020. It took me two days to create something that I only thought of doing
for months. I came from being hesitant to start and then be able to create and
publish in just one weekend. Last June 29, 2020, my blog site also reached another
milestone, I have just gotten an email from Google that my site is now searchable
in Google Search. Wooohoooo! All of these would never have happened (or would
be delayed until now) without the encouragement from my husband, and me being
challenged to take that first step.
You see, whenever I, or our
friends close to us would ask my husband for an advice about something, the
most common thing he will tell you would be this “We are never truly ready but we
will never know unless we try”. Truly, this is applicable not only with me
starting my blog, but in all aspect of our lives. For us humans, it is quite
easy for us to be afraid of the unknown and to explore an unfamiliar territory.
However, we will not be able to explore our potential until we try to do that something
we are scared of doing (as long as it is not illegal). If we succeed, great; if
we don’t, then that’s just fine, because in the end we gave it a try and we
learned.
So, for those reading my blog and, is also looking into doing something new, be brave and go ahead and give it a try. As my husband would always say, “You will never know if you can unless you try”.
